Most of the Cubans didn't like the Platt Amendment. They wanted complete independence. That's what they thought they were getting when the United States helped them become free from Spain. Unfortunately, with America becoming an imperialist nation around the 1900s, this did not happen. America wanted to have some control over Cuba in order to use the land to obtain resources and own more land. In this Amendment, Cuba had to lease naval stations to the U.S., Cuba couldn't sign a treaty with another nation without American approval, and the U.S. could intervene.
