Hi-Speed USB controller (version 2.0)merely transfers data a significantly higher rate than version 1.0. You can buy a 2.0 PCI card and install it in your computer yourself (will practically self install on a system with Windows XP)if you have need for faster download/transfer speeds.

As the first answer says, speed is what it's about. I have seen one USB Flash Drive which would not work on USB 1.0, and a printer which would not reliably wake up automatically from energy saver on USB 1.0. Both of these were corrected by a switch to USB 2.0
