Sulphur (Sulfur in the US)
Location of electrons is not important to determine which element it is. 16 electorns means that it would have 16 protons in it's nucleus, so 16 is atomic number of the element. It would have 16 neutrons in it's nucleus too (it is usually one neutron for each proton), which make atomic weight of this element equal to 32.
Simply add the number of electrons. 2 + 8 + 6 = 16 electrons
The element that has 16 electrons is Sulfur.
Sulfur has the electron arrangement of 2.8.6.

What element has 2 electrons in the first shell and 8 in the second and 6 in the third
Sulphur.
First orbital can be occupied by a total of 2 electrons and the second orbital can be occupied by a total of 8 electrons. 1s^2 2s^2 2p^6 ( what element is this ? )
lose 3 electrons from its second shell
First Shell always has 2 electrons. Second shell onwards can have up to a maximum of 8 electrons.
What element has 2 electrons in the first shell and 8 in the second and 6 in the third

There should be seven in the second shell and two in the first. The element in question is fluorine, which has the atomic number 9, the same as the number of its protons and electrons.
The answer is Sulphur
In the first shell there are two electrons and in the second shell there are six electrons, but only the electrons in the second (outer) shell are valence electrons.

Neon is the element with 10 electrons. Neon has 2 electrons in the K shell (or first energy level), and 8 electrons in the L shell (the second energy level).
lose 3 electrons from its second shell
