Most of the human body is made up of water, H2O, with cells consisting of 65-90% water by weight. Therefore, it isn't surprising that most of a human body's mass is oxygen. Carbon, the basic unit for organic molecules, comes in second. 99% of the mass of the human body is made up of just six elements: oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium, and phosphorus. # Oxygen (65%) # Carbon (18%) # Hydrogen (10%) # Nitrogen (3%) # Calcium (1.5%) # Phosphorus (1.0%) # Potassium (0.35%) # Sulfur (0.25%) # Sodium (0.15%) # Magnesium (0.05%) # Copper, Zinc, Selenium, Molybdenum, Fluorine, Chlorine, Iodine, Manganese, Cobalt, Iron (0.70%) # Lithium, Strontium, Aluminum, Silicon, Lead, Vanadium, Arsenic, Bromine (trace amounts)

The vast majority of the mass of living creatures is composed of only a few elements:

  • H hydrogen (in pretty much every molecule in living creatures)
  • O oxygen (in pretty much every molecule in living creatures)
  • C carbon (in all "organic molecules" -- pretty much every molecule in living creatures, except water)
  • N nitrogen (in all amino acids and DNA)
  • P phosphorus (in the phospholipids that compose cell membranes, and in DNA and a few other molecules -- but not in any protein)
  • S sulphur (in 2 of the 22 amino acid)
  • Na sodium
  • Mg magnesium
  • K potassium
  • Ca calcium
  • Cl clorine

Generally most living creatures have 40% to 75% of their mass composed of water (H2O).

All DNA is composed entirely of 5 elements: CHONP.

All possible proteins can be composed from 6 elements: CHONS and Se. However, most proteins can be composed from only 4 elements: CHON.

There are also a number of "trace elements" that, in small amounts (vitamins and dietary minerals), are essential for humans and other creatures:

  • Se selenium (in 1 of the 22 amino acids, used in at least 20 human proteins)
  • Mo molybdenum
  • Cr
  • Mn
  • Fe iron, necessary for hemoglobin to work properly
  • Co
  • Ni
  • Cu
  • Zn
  • I

There are many other elements typically found in very small amounts in all living creatures. It is extremely difficult to construct an environment that excludes those elements sufficiently to conduct an experiment to see if creatures can live just fine without them, or if creatures need them as essential trace nutrients.

Animals are made of tiny organisms called cells. Mostly the animal is made of tissue, veins, blood cells, and many others. Animals are mostly made out of what humans are made out of. I hope I answered your question.
