The only thing you REALLY need to play Football is a BALL and Two Goals
You can play anywhere - on the beach, in the park, on a football pitch. You can play barefoot (on beach), with sneakers (shoes), or with cleats (boots). Safety is important, however, so a football player should wear cleats and shin guards with socks covering the shin guards so that they do not fall down or fall off. Goalkeepers should wear gloves to protect their hands (a long sleeve shirt and long pants are a plus if the goalkeeper plans on DIVING).
If you are in a league or on a team, you and your teammates should try to wear the same colors, so that it will be easier to find your teammates when you play a different team.
A standard football game has 2 goals (with nets attached to them usually) and 4 flags on each corner of the field. There is usually a referee as well as 2 flag men (1 on each side of the field, and they let the ref. know if there is a foul, which team knocks the ball out of bounds, if someone is offsides, etc.).
