You can read the measurements wrongly depending on the type of liquid used to measure the volume for irregularly shaped objects. You should determine whether the liquid used forms an upper or lower meniscus. For regularly shaped objects, errors occur when you read the units are rounded off.

Get a liquid volume measuring jug, fill it to a fixed level with water and make a note of the level = level A. Next drop in the solid object and make a note of the new level = level B.

Subtract level A from level B and the difference is the volume of the solid object.

In order to measure the volume of an irregularly shaped object, you use water displacement.

You can fill a graduated cylinder with water to a certain amount and record that initial volume. Then place your object into the cylinder, and record the second volume. Subtract the first volume from the second volume, and that is the volume of the irregularly shaped object.

If the object is too big for a graduated cylinder, you can use an overflow can, which has a nozzle that allows excess water to leave the can. Fill the can with water until all of the excess water leaves the nozzle. Place a beaker under the nozzle and place the object inside the overflow can. The excess water will flow from the nozzle into the beaker. Then place the water in the beaker into the graduated cylinder. The volume in the cylinder is the volume of the object.

The graduated cylinder measures volume in mL. One mL = 1cm3, so you can record the volume of the solid in cm3.

A Graduated Cylinder can be used in measuring solids having irregular shapes. First, pour some water on the graduated cylinder and mark it as point A. Remember it because it will be your reference for the next processes. Second, put the rock (remember to put only one rock). Mark the new water level. Subtract the first level from the second level and the difference will be the measure of the irregular solid.

The displacement method is best. If the object can be submersed in water, then do so in a graduated container. Measure the change in volume and you will have your answer.

You can measure it by the volume of liquid that the object displaces

That depends on the technique used. Using a well calibrated measuring jug, the shape of the solid is irrelevant.

How can we calculate the density of a irregular solid or a liquid?

You can dip the irregular solid in a water or other suitable liquid. This is how, you can measure the volume of the solid. The mass can be measured by weighing scale. Mass/volume = density. It is easy to measure the mass and volume of the liquid. First measure the mass the container. Then add the liquid to it. You will get the mass of the liquid. Then measure the volume of the liquid. Use the above formula to calculate the density of the liquid.

What is an easy way to measure the volume of an oddly shaped solid object?

by measuring the amount of water it displaces

What instrument measures the volume of an irregular solid?

graduated cylindergraduated cylinderSubmerge your solid in a liquid the liquid volume displaced is equal to your irregular solid volume.

What pieces of lab equipment measure volume?

There are three ways to measure volume. If you are measuring a liquid, you need a graduated cyliner. If you are measuring the volume of a regular solid, you need a ruler to measure length, width, and height. You would then use the formula V=LxWxH. The third way to measure volume is to use displacement to find the volume of an irregular solid. You would put a certain amount of water in a graduated cylinder, write the starting amount down. Add the irregular solid to the graduated cylinder. Record the ending amount of liquid and subtract the ending amount minus the starting amount.

What instrument measures the volume of an irregular object?

If you submerge the object in a volumetrically-labeled beaker, the volume of water displaced (how much the water rises when the object is submerged), is the volume of the object.Either a graduated cylinder or overflow can is used to measure the volume of an irregular solid by water displacement.

How do you we measure the volume of an irregular shaped solid object?

How can you measure the volume of an irregular solid?

It's simple, you just have to take a measurable recipient big enough to contain the solid, fill the recipient with a known volume of water and drop the irregular solid into the water. Then you can measure the increase of volume, which will be equivalent to the volume of your solid.

What is the name of the method used to find the volume of an irregular shaped solid?

Liquid displacement

How do you measure the volume irregular solid?

You place it in water to see the volume of water it displaces. Fill a large, graduated measuring cylinder to about halfway with water (say to 50mL) Put the irregular solid in, and measure the volume it reads (solid + water). (say it reads 80mL) So the volume of the irregular solid will be: volume(solid+water) - volume(water). For example, the volume of the water was 50mL, and when the solid was added, the volume increased to 80mL. The volume of the solid would be 80mL - 50mL. So it would be 30mL.

How will you measure volume of irregular solid?

use a ruler to measure the lenght of each side of the object

How can you determine the volume of a regularly shaped solid?

Put solid in a container ; fill container with water to a known container volume; take object out of container and read the remaining volume. subtract this remaining volumefrom the known volume. This result is the volume of the regular or irregular shaped solid.

What is the formula in finding the volume of irregular solid?

There is no formula for finding the volume of an irregular solid. One method is water displacement which works as follows: Fill a graduated container with water and read off the volume of water. Then you submerge the irregular shaped solid in the water and measure the volume inside the container again. The difference between the two levels is the volume of the solid. This clearly cannot work for solids that are soluble in water. Other fluids may have to be used in such cases. Also, it will not work if the solid floats on water, but in that case you can submerge it using additional weights (whose volume you have measured).

How do you measure a irregular solid?

What method used to measure irregular solids?

To measure what quantity of irregular solids? If its volume you are referring then you can use the volume displacement method where you need a measuring cylinder, water and possibly a displacement can.Measure a known quantity of water. Then immerse the irregular solid in this cylinder. The rise in the water level equals the volume of the irregular solid. Note that if the irregular object floats, a sinker must be used to fully immerse the irregular solid, where the volume of the sinker should be known.Hope this helps- if you need more information email me @ physicsisland@hotmail.com
