There are many important events that led up to the American Revolution. The first was the French and Indian War and the dept left Britain to impose new taxes. Next, was the proclamation of 1774, which prohibited colonists from moving west of the Appalachian Mountains. The Stamp Act was the next event that led up to the American Revolution. This Act lowered the tax on molasses imported by the colonists. This angered the colonists because they couldn't smuggle. The Stamp Act placed tax on all printed materials. The colonists had a boycott and refused to buy British goods. The act was repealed, but on the same day Declaratory Act that allowed Parliament the right to tax. The Townshend Acts still angered the colonists even though it tried to avoid the problems of the Stamp Act. The Boston Massacre, Tea Act, and Boston Tea Party were also some events that led to the American Revolution. After those events was the Coercive Acts that closed Boston Harbor until the colonists could pay for the ruined tea. Then the First Continental Congress was formed. They tied to create peace, but instead war broke out. The American Revolution broke out.

They wanted to be their own country and not a colony of the mother country, which tend to be used as a base for resources etc. Usually the Mother Country will not care much for their colonies, but force them to feed the central economy or provide for the Mother Country. Fighting for independence meant they could be seprate, have their own economy, their own government etc. They felt would work best for them instead of someone else running their lives.

American Revolution was preceded by a social and political awakening of Colonial Americans. The high handedness of British colonial government and a series of legislations known as coercive or intolerable acts pushed the Americans towards freedom. The harsh treatment meted out to the people of Massachusetts in the aftermath of Boston Tea Party also fanned the sentiments of freedom among American people.

The Boston Massacre and the Intolerable Acts were two of the main events (of many things that built up) that led the colonists to declare independence.

Other things that the colonists were unhappy about were the Townshend Acts, the Olive Branch Petition, the Tea Act, the Sugar Act, the Writs of Assistance, the Stamp Act, etc.

Colonists were angry about taxes and felt like foreigners, Trading policies....
There were several determining factors,

One was taxation without representation, colonies were upset by England taxing them for supplies needed in their colonies. The king would make life there almost impossibly hard for colonist. There were several other conflicts such as the fact that they had no freedom of religion, they were forced to have the religion that the king George had. Eventually the colonists became weary of this and decided freedom was there only choice, this is when the document called "common sense" was published allowing, which spoke of independence from the king.
