Before leaving home, there are certain things that young people should know in order to be more successful on their own.

• You should be able to make a budget and stick to it, with a reasonable savings plan added in.
• You should be able to cook your own meals and plan them ahead of time so that you can shop for groceries.
• You should know how to care for, and clean, your clothes and belongings.
• You should know the basics of keeping a job and getting along with others.
• You should know where to go if you need more information about things, such as the library, or to an expert like a lawyer or doctor.
