Try Pilates, Dahn yoga, walking, swimming, bike riding with some free weight exercises. Losing weight by eating a healthy diet (lots of low glycemic carbohydrates rather than those in overly processed non-foods) and exercising should reduce your middle. Nothing works really fast, so concentrate on feeling better as you can do more.

Quit eating anything that has a sweetener in it; read labels- anything with sugar, high fructose corn syrup etc. Also, you want to stay away from monosodium glutamate, and quit drinking the city water. If it occurs in nature, eat it. Sugar is not natural because it has to be refined (extracted) usually from the cane, or beets. This makes it a toxin for the body, and hence Diabetes.

Please do not use the term diabetic middle. It is offensive to those of us who have type 1 diabetes and are not obese.

OK! I am a type 1 diabetic and am not obese however, I feel that I have a somewhat prominent middle section myself! and I do not think that this person is being offensive, just looking for help?! P.S. If you find the solution I would welcome any advice on the subject.

If you actually are diabetic and concerned about weight gain caused by your diet and insulin regime, consider an "eat to your meter" strategy. If you're eating a high-glycemic meal and then injecting plenty of extra insulin to bring your blood sugar down, consider where that extra glucose must go -- into the cells of your body. If you're not actually exercising hard, those cells have little choice but to turn it to fat!

An eat-to-your-meter strategy involves experimenting with lower GI foods and testing your blood sugar 1 and 2 hours after mealtimes to keep the peaks low, minimizing bolus insulin doses at mealtimes. See related link.
