In most cases, cotton fabric will burn faster than denim. Denim is made of cotton, but has been processed in order to make it more durable, and therefore it burns slower.

It is possible to add fire retardant to cotton fabric to inhibit the burn rate, so treated fabric would burn slower, in a different burn pattern.
