Japan was already one of the advanced nations before WW2, though many factories were bombed, their most precious technology and people were passed on. The people was hardworking and educated. Retired soldiers provided cheap labor and the destruction of the old factories allowed building of the most advanced ones for replacement.
Post-war Japan benefited by being occupied by the richest nation on earth at the time..the U.S. The U.S. had a vested interest in helping to rebuild Japan so that it would not become fertile ground for a USSR sponsored communist movement. Also America found it a pain to support the needs of the entire Japanese population, because their industries were destroyed by America. The rebuilding program was actually helped by the outbreak of the Korean War where it was found more efficient to produce war material in Japan rather than ship it in from the U.S. The same effect could be seen during the Vietnam War. All this allowed Japanese industry to modernize and expand very quickly.
The Japanese people set about rebuilding their country and by the middle of the 1950s Japan was getting back on track! Japan had to rebuild itself from scratch and so all of its new factories were made using the latest technology. They were very modern and this made them very competitive in the world markets. Japan also began to mass produce things, getting twice as much work done as any other country in the world with half as many workers.
AnswerInitially, many Japanese goods exported were simply marked 'Foreign', but by 1970 at the latest 'Made in Japan' had become a selling point.Like other countries, Japan benefitted from the long postwar boom. Without wishing to detract from the achievements of the Japanese I think it's worth pointing out that since 1945 the country's miliary expenditure has been extremely low, which has been a big bonus for the economy.
The Japanese benefitted from General McAuther's forming of trade with America. He suggested that lower export taxes and even subsidized trade with the U.S. would help Japan compete and even thrive. Japan gave Japanese corporations as much as 30 percent of the selling price back to the companies, gauranteeing them a profit as long as they were selling the product in the U.S.A.
Among other things, American investment by electronics companies such as RCA. This later, as is known backfired. Delmonico electronics-also known as NVC Victor company of Japan, was a direct RCA subsidiary- no connection with the famous restaurant- perhaps a pun on Free Lunch. Delmonico"s made good stereo equipment.
The US helped rebuild Japan's economy after World War 2 by sending in a general to rewrite the constitution for Japan under the US Constitution with similar factors such as the emperor is no longer ruler of Japan, and Japan cannot declare war on another country unless Another Country attacks first. This prevents Japan from joining in or starting major wars.
