I think the most important one is that folks that are disabled can be athletes, too. Whether one has a physical or mental handicap should not disqualify them from becoming an athlete. A 1500 meter wheelchair race is just as exciting as the 1500 meter race run on foot. The 100 meter dash run by those that are mentally handicapped is just as exciting as the 100 meter dash run by those that are not handicapped. Over my lifetime, there has been an strong effort to integrate the handicapped into mainstream life. They were once shunned by society and pretty much expected to be kept out sight. But we realize now just how much the handicapped have to give to society. Not just in athletics but life in general. I mean, the handicapped are people too, you know? They should be treated as such and allowed all of the things a 'normal' person is allowed.
