You can take pretty much any "normal" food into an airplane. This includes salad, burger, burrito, sandwich, fried rice etc. I would be cautious about bringing anything that might smell very strong such as fish. You can carry food from home and it can pass through security. However, liquids will need to be bought at the security since these cannot be brought from outside.
