Best Answer
Good sources of proteinMost unrefined foods have some protein in them but mainly meat, dairy products, eggs, beans, whole grains, nuts and seeds. Vegetables have some protein, too.

Listed on this page are are some of the best sources for those who are not vegetarian and those who arevegetarian.

If you are a vegetarian, sources of protein may include such things as:

  • nuts
  • seeds
  • pulses
  • beans
  • soya products (tofu, soya milk and textured soya protein such as soya mince)
  • cereals (wheat, oats, rice)
  • free-range eggs (although true vegetarians do not eat eggs)
  • dairy products such as milk, cheese and yoghurt (unless vegan or strict vegetarian).

If you are a vegetarian, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds, and whole grains are all good sources of protein that have no cholesterol and plenty of fiber and vitamins.

However, many people can have an intolerance to grains. Moreover, processed/refined grains can be a major cause of many health related diseases such as type 2 Diabetes and obesity.

If you are not a vegetarian, good sources of proteins are natural sources that enabled our ancestors to thrive, such as:

  • Game, which was the staple food of our ancestors
  • Meats, organ and muscle such as beef steaks, joint cuts of meat, mince, etc., preferably from grass-fed ungulates (cattle, bison, and beefalo). Try to avoid meats from animals raised in feedlots who are fed corn, which is unnatural for them to eat.)
  • Eggs preferably from free-range chickens (on organic land)
  • Chicken and turkey meat preferably from free-range poultry
  • Fish from the deep ocean such as wild salmon, mackerel, Chilean sea bass, sardines, anchovies, and tuna. (However, because of Mercury contamination, it is best to avoid eating large fish like tuna more than once or twice a week.)

If you eat protein from natural sources, you will be getting the right kind of fats, too. Since many people have an allergy or intolerance, it is best not to get protein from dairy products or plant products such as soy. On the other hand, if you happen to tolerate them well (or if you are a vegetarian), use them in moderation. Lean meats are an excellent source of protein. Just be sure to leave the skin off and not to cook them in any sort of fat, grease or butter. Boiled chicken is the best. Just be sure to strain any grease off at the end.
