I'm sure you have already heard concentrated cherry juice works. I'm no doctor but I started using baking soda daily in small doses and wow it really worked for me. I have heard there are some dangers involved in taking baking soda on a reg basis, but have your read the label on Amitriptiline or some of those other Rx's. Ill take my chances with the baking soda.

Uric acid is produce by purines being metabolized in the system Purines are present in all living cells. The largest amount of purines come from your own body as cells are replaced and absorbed the purines in them are metabolized and uric acid is formed in normal situations this is no problem and your kidneys and large intestine removes them from the system. The next source is foods, a general rule of thumb is that seafood's are highest in purines as well as offal foods like liver kidney brains or other organs, then comes meats of any description, followed by legumes ( beans) then the rest of the vegetable kingdom. just about all alcoholic beverages are also high on the don't touch list. The only thing that you can have with impunity is dairy products as there are no purines in them . Hower not if they are boosted with cultures like yoghurt. Go to discuss below for a web address that give a more detailed list.

Can a 21 year old girl get gout?

There is no specific age for gout. Usually its mid 30's to 40's, but anyone can get if they eat foods that raise uric acid levels. I'm 24 and I had a gout attack. It can also hapen as a result of kidney problems. Normally, uric acid dissolves in your blood and passes through your kidneys into your urine. But sometimes your body either produces too much uric acid or your kidneys excrete too little uric acid. If your body is working correctly then eating foods high in purines will not lead to gout.
