Tuareg

Traditionally, Tuareg society is hierarchical, with nobility and vassals. Each Tuareg clan (tawshet) is made up of several family groups, led by their collective chiefs, the amghar. A series of tribes tawsheten may bond together under an Amenokal, forming a Kel clan confederation. Tuareg self identify is related only to their specific Kel, which means "those of". E.g. Kel Dinnig (those of the east), Kel Ataram (those of the west). In popular culture

About 95% of a Tuareg's diet is grains when they're travelling.

They eat mostly non-meat protein, but dairy is added with milk and cheese. Fruits are mostly made up of dates and melon, (when they're in season) as well as vegetables which are dried and pounded which can be put into a sauce. On special occasions they consume a lovely sweet beverage, which they call eghajira, which is made of pounded millet, dates and cheese mixed with water.

The most essential food in the Tuareg's diet is milk. The main food that they eat twice a day is a porridge made from millet or other grain, along with large quantities of fresh milk. They also make bread, and cheese from goat milk, and they eat whatever wild fruits and vegetables they can collect seasonally. Tuareg herders rarely eat meat, except for festive occasions, holidays, and when they have guests.

Millet is the primary grain. They also eat rice, pasta and sweet potatoes with tomato paste sauce if they can afford it. Meat is expensive and scarce as are vegetables and fruits. Goat and sheep meat is eaten occasionally.
