It is becoming more and more common that the bride and groom welcome the guests to the wedding reception and then they are announced into the reception hall. Usually it is the parents of the bride, or the parents of the bride and groom.

  • In Westernized countries it is tradition that after the wedding ceremony and when the newly married couple are ready to enter the reception area the MC is to announce 'Please stand for Mr. & Mrs. ____.' The guests stand as the couple stand in the doorway of the reception area and clap. After dinner there can be a reception line (including the parents of the bride and groom and the wedding party) where guests can file by and congratulate the newly married couple. Reception lines are becoming passe and it is more modern for the bride and groom to circulate to the guests tables during the course of the evening.
