∙ 12y agoJohn played several Guitars. During their early days of playing nightclubs in Hamburg and Liverpool, he played a Rickenbacker 325 with a "short neck." He also played a Gibson J-160E acoustic with a built-in pickup so it could be played amplified.
In the movie Help! he is shown playing a Framus acoustic 12-string in the scene where The Beatles are singing "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away."
In 1966, he switched from playing the Rickenbacker electric to playing an Epiphone Casino, his main axe for the rest of his career with the Beatles. He later had the sunburst finish removed from this guitar and this is the guitar he is seen playing in the promo clips for "Hey Jude," "Revolution," and "Get Back."
He is also seen playing a Fender Bass IV in several sequences from the movie Let It Be.

John seems to have been into product loyalty and contributed to the modification of the Rickenbacker 325.
John also used a Gibson "Les Paul Special" during his Beatles days.

You can see many times in this song in particular the signature E and Epiphone on the headstock of his guitar.

He owned a Fender Bass VI, and played it on "Back In The USSR", "The Long And Winding Road", and "Let It Be".
