Greg is alive and well and living in the Atlanta area. He runs a contracting business and occasionally plays some local gigs, now showcasing his amazing guitar and singing talents in addition to his keyboard skills.
You're probably referring to Robert Smith of The Cure - he's also the lead singer. As a guitarist he was also a member of siouxsie and the Banshees for a short time.
