Men did NOT come home as units. They came home alone...one at a time; usually disembarking from a standard commercial airliner. Some men discarded their uniforms at first opportunity, so no one would no they were in the military...this avoided "hostile stares" and "snide remarks" (fighting words). Or made fun of, if they were wounded.
haha...they would cheer and go home and spend a normal life with their wives (if they didnt seperate...) or spend time with family.in high respect

A total of 58,168 American soldiers died in Vietnam during the Vietnam War!!
The Vietnam war effected soldiers physically with strain of fighting in the jungle but it also effected soldiers psychological mind set. Soldiers were pulled out of school and work at the age of 17 and thrown into the war. The soldiers had to drink and smoke marijuana to deal with the war. It was hard for soldiers to come back for war and make a life.
Its not the popularity of the soldiers, but the conflict they are in. A great example was Vietnam. Most hated the war itselft, and why we were over there, not the soldiers.
Because the war was to help a different country
The Vietnam War, was no different from past wars (US Civil War, WW1, WW2, Korean War, etc). Some marriages survived, some marriages did not.
Approximately 2,594,000 US Servicemen served in the Vietnam War.
