The hospital was merged in with Saint Mary's Hospital in Troy in the Mid 1990's and a new health organization was formed called Seton Health System. This organization continued to manage all properties of The Leonard Hospital and the hospital itself. The Hospital remained open until late 1996 when it was closed all together. Services were gradually phased out and moved to Saint Mary's in Troy. The building remained for sale until 2004 when a company out of Brooklyn, NY bought it. It is still vacant today. Numerous amounts of vandalism and a fire have occurred on the property which is over 50 years old.
The former Leonard Hospital building was constructed in 1973. No where near 50 years old. The Old Leonard Hospital that this building replaced is now a senior citizen only apartment building. That building on the other hand, is over 50 years old.
I never even heard of that hospital til yesterday. When I looked inside it looked really scary.
