Young Walter sailed with his father in April 1617 but the ship ran into problems from the start. They were going to Orinoco to search for a goldmine Before they got there Senior Raleigh was stricken with sickness and compelled to stay with the ship. The command was given to Keymis. The adventurers burned a new Spanish town, San Thome', but never reached the mine. In the fight young Raleigh was struck down. Keymis killed himself; and in June 1618 Raleigh arrived at Plymouth with his ship, the Destiny, alone. Later, Raleigh will be beheaded at Whitehall under a previous sentence of death.
