Steve left the show to do bigger things. He was in a band named 'Steve Burns and the Struggle' after he left and is currently working on a new album.
He did not kill himself, and he was not a heroin addict.

he went to rehab for drugs

According to the show, he went to college, and his cousin Joe took the reigns.

Actually he started his own heavy metal band, but apparently was not very good, since no one has actually heard of it.

he didn't do drugs he is still in collage
but joe does drugs still
