Germany attempted to exterminate them, killing about six million European Jews alive in the areas under Nazi control.
____Hitler tried to wipe out all the Jews in Europe in the "Final Solution", which involved the slaughter of the Jews. And the Nazis burned their body to ashes. In areas under German control the Jews were massacred, mainly in mass open air shootings, and gassed in extermination camps. Others were worked to death in concentration camps.
Before the large-scale killings began in 1941, most Jews were forced to live in intolerable conditions in ghettos (for example, in Poland, Lithuania, Belarus).

6 million Jews were purposely killed by the Nazi Germans by order of Adolf Hitler to comply with "The Final Solution." This mass killing of the Jews and the murder of 5 million other individuals came to be known as "The Holocaust."
Jews were rounded up by the Nazi Germans and their collaborators. They sent the Jews to places called Ghettos, Concentration Camps and Labor Camps. The systematic killing was cruel, brutal and inhumane. The genocide was conducted all over Europe. At the end of the war a mere several hundred thousand managed to survive the Holocaust. See the link below.
They were persecuted. In other words, they were systematically harassed by the government, which wanted them out of the country. Most of those who had not left by 1939 were murdered from 1941 on.

Starting on 15 October 1941 the Berlin Jews were deported by train, mainly to Riga (in Latvia) which was turned into a vast killing field. Others were sent to Maly Trostinets near Minsk (Belarus) and some were dumped in the already overcrowded Warsaw Ghetto. At that stage the Nazis did not yet have gas chambers designed for mass killings and most of the Jews deported from Berlin were shot.
Most of the Jews in Germany were murdered at the death camps. Germany, unlike Poland and the Soviet Union, had less than 500,000 Jews at the beginning of the war. Berlin, by 1944, still had thousands of Jews that were being hidden by people sympathetic to their plight. Hitler ordered Himmler to redouble his efforts to find them and send them to Auschwitz immediately. Berlin was a huge city with very liberal tradition and was never hospitable to the Nazis, unlike Nuremberg and Munich. There were about 8,000 Jews that survived the holacaust.
