All the Native Americans died of disease and hunger

No, we did NOT all die of disease and hunger. Yes, there were 12 million of us at one point and we got down to 236,000 by the year 1900, but we did NOT all die.

In fact, after Philip Sheridan preached about how to solve "The Indian Question" as he put it by killing off most of the bison to near-extinction in order to starve out the tribes, the Native Americans that were left were forced to assimilate into white society, the children being kidnapped from their homes to attend Indian schools where they were abused both physically and sexually. Many even died. The rest that didn't get shipped off to boarding schools were put on reservations of land that the government deemed useless with their parents and others that remained.

After their culture, language and way of life had nearly been destroyed, America thought it was a grand idea to bring it back in the 1930s and 40s because they believed the culture to be "interesting." Today, though Natives live in normal houses (many still live on the reservations), they still hold powwows and keep their traditions alive, passing it down to their children and teaching their values and beliefs to them so that they may never die out.
