I was born without a soft spot. If they had not performed surgery when they had my brain wouldn't not have had room to grow. This then causes many issues. The Brain would continue growing without room to grow, causing the eye balls to come out of their sockets causing blindness, skin to peel off the ears and other parts of the face trying to make room and other things like that. Imagine putting a wet sponge inside a very small ball and letting it grow inside when you know the dry sponge is much bigger then the ball. Difference with a human head is that your head will try to create room by pushing other parts out of the way....which causes brain damage and other health issues. Luckily Everything was a GREAT success for me and I never had any problems after the surgery save a large scar from the front of my skull all the way to the back.
They never really told me what causes it. Just that sometimes it happens. Maybe the fact that I was a big baby had something to do with it, I don't know.
Basically babies born without soft spots need surgery as soon as possible to correct the problem (by having a soft spot created for them) so then everything goes as normal and the brain has room to grow. The longer you wait the more mental and physical damage it had on the growing child.

∙ 11y agoNormally If a fontanelle is hard, baby has a temperature, loss of appetite, this isn't a great sign. The best thing to do is see a doctor. As it could be something quite serious.
