That is all relative. If they are in an extra day or two, it doesn't usually hurt anything. Leaving them in for several days too long can cause some problems though. This can include skin irritation, infection, and increased scarring.

∙ 8y agoIt's VERY important to keep stitches in until your doctor says they can be removed.
Stitches hold a wound together until the tissues heal. If they're taken out too soon the wound can tear open and have to be stitched a second time.
