A Redox reaction is one where Reduction and Oxidisation both occur; electrons are transferred from one substance to another.

The substance that loses the electrons is oxidised and the substance receiving the electrons is reduced.

Oxidation reduction is an exchange of electrons. When oxidized loses electrons it can cause reduction in the gain of electrons to remember this always think OILRIG.
