You can go into paid pension after 15 years of service no matter how old you are. or if you get wounded so that you are not combat fit anymore. you get taken care of very well as an ex FFL and the pay is high.

In years precedent, this was the situation. However, now the French Government is having trouble paying its bills. The Pension system was "reformed" retroactively and everyone was give and extra 4 years. Even those on their way out... don't join. Its quite likely to happen again. This time they are talking about paying later on in like(towards 55 years old). Also they pay is a long the same line as the minimum wage in France. However, Legionnaires do not work 35 hours per week. A Legionnaire can expect a paycheck close to 3 dollars per hour of work. This will not improve with time or experience.
