The umbilical cord is never attached to the mother. The umbilical cord is attached to the placenta, which is inside of the mother's uterus. When the baby is delivered, the placenta comes out, and the umbilical cord attached to it comes out with it.

Only if they're still attached to the mother's umbilical cord. And they don't actually use their lungs to "breathe". They simply receive oxygen from the mother through the umbilical cord.

What Happens to the placenta when the baby is born?

the placenta is attached to the baby through the umbilical cord. after the baby is born the cord is cut and the placenta still needs to be removed. to remove the placenta the mother goes through a third stage of labor to deliver the placenta. this normally lasts about about 10-15 minuets. the mother pushes while the doctor assists and finally its out.

Why do you have belly bottons?

before birth, the fetus is attached to the placenta (which feeds it) by the umbilical cord. when the baby is born, the doctor cuts the umbilical cord. a few days later, the piece of the umbilical cord that was still attached to the baby falls off the belly, leaving a small rise in the belly: the belly button. of the next decade and a half or so, the rise in the belly sinks in and becomes a small cave.

How old is a kitten that has dry fur but the umbilical cord is still wet?

It will be quite young. After a few days the umbilical cord will harden and fall of. However, the kitten may be a few hours old - check if it's eyes are open or not - as the mother will dry her kits as soon as they are born, by licking them.

How do you clean newborn belly button?

Depends on how old the baby is. If the baby still has the umbilical cord attached a small piece of gauze with alcohol on it wiped gently around the edges. If the cord has come off but the area is still raw leave it alone until it scabs and let the scab fall off on its own.

Do whales have bellybuttons?

Yes whales do have belly-buttons. Whales are mammals and to be classified as such they need to fulfill certain criteria. They breathe air, have hair, give birth to live young and nourish their young with milk. When a whale is born it is still attached to the cow (mother) by the umbilical cord which then needs to be detached (exactly how this is done is not fully known). leaving behind a belly button or scientifically the 'umbilicus'.

How do you get your alien birthpods to come out of its mum?

It depends where the alien baby is in its mother. If it is in it's belly, you simply turn the the belly inside out. If it is still attached to it on the inside it is not ready. If it is not attached then you should be able to pull it out.If it is in the head it is the same. When it is out, use the clear gel stuff to wrap it around the baby. When that is done put another baby in it and it happens all over again. It takes around about 2 months or so for it to happen apparently
