What happens to the poor homeless and unemployed in our monetary system is that they cease to exist to the rest of humanity. I live in a rough part of Ft. Myers, Fl where the Salvation Army, Harry Chapin Food Bank try to help, but necessities such as education, housing, health care, and existence above the poverty line are just too important and too big to be left to the tender mercies of charity and discretionary philanthropy. I see the same group of desperate people pushing shopping carts, suffering, lacking the stability and purchasing power to access even the most basic needs of life. While grocery stores throw away food that could be used to homes that lie vacant, the waste in this society is a travesty to human decency. My witness of the grim look of despair on their faces gives one the impression they are the living dead.
