Knowing what the options are for the answers would be helpful to know which has the lowest melting point. Without knowing what transition metals are listed in the answers it is hard to know which is correct.

There are several metals and alloys which could qualify as having "low" melting points:

  • Hydrogen is thought to become a metallic substance at temperatures near absolute zero (-273oC). However, answer is limited to metals in the more common sense of the word.
  • The metal with the lowest melting point is Mercury - the only metallic element with a melting point (-40oC) below room temperature (20oC).
  • Gallium melts at 86oF (30oC) which would be liquid on a warm day or in your hand.
  • The alloy Field's metal melts at 144oF (62° C)about the temperature of a cup of hot coffee
  • The alloy Wood's metal melts at 158oF (70 °C )
