[These are snippets relating to the poison, and don't actually follow each other in the play]
Romeo: Come hither, man. I see that thou art poor: Hold, there is forty ducats: let me have A dram of poison, such soon-speeding gear As will disperse itself through all the veins That the life-weary taker may fall dead And that the trunk may be discharged of breath As violently as hasty powder fired Doth hurry from the fatal cannon's womb.
Apothecary: Put this in any liquid thing you will, And drink it off; and, if you had the strength Of twenty men, it would dispatch you straight.
So, unfortunately the answer is that we just don't know. Shakespeare's text doesn't specify. Even the poison in Hamlet is easier to guess at. However, see the related link for a site that offers some guesses (you have to scroll down). Mind you, they are just guesses. We can't know which poison Shakespeare intended.
In Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet," Juliet fakes her death by consuming a potion made from a herb called "vial," sometimes referred to as "sleeping potion" or "sleeping draught." This potion induces a death-like coma, leading to tragic consequences for the young lovers.
Juliet has taken a herb to make her look dead so that she can escape with Romeo. I think Paris was there to mourn Juliet and noticed Romeo coming. Romeo didn't know about the herb, and was coming to kill himself with poison so that he can be dead alongside Juliet. Paris thinks that Romeo s coming to vandalize the tomb, so he fights him, and Romeo kills him. Romeo kills himself, and then when Juliet wakes up and finds Paris and Romeo dead, she kills herself with a knife. Lovely.
Shortly after Romeo poisons himself. the friar arrives and Juliet wakes up. Had he only kept on soliloquizing for a minute or two there would have been a happy ending.
Romeo killed Paris, broke into the tomb and dragged Paris in there. Romeo poisoned himself, not minutes, but seconds before Juliet woke up.
When Juliet wakes up her family members are in the tomb with her.
"Here's rosemary; that's for remembrance. Pray you love, remember."
Romeo drinks a poison from friar Lawrence when he saw/ thought his Juliet was dead. Romeo had just drank the poison and died when Juliet woke up from the potion that made her seem dead. Juliet could not stand to be alive without Romeo so tried to drink the poison too, but there was none left so she stabbed herself with Romeo's dagger
Of course
No he wasn’t poisoned.
When Juliet takes the poison given to her by Friar Lawrence her family holds a funeral for her. When no one is in the church mourning over Juliet, Romeo decides to pay her a visit. He talks and gives a big speech then decides to take some poison that he bought from a man. He drinks it and then Juliet wakes up, takes Romeo's dagger and stabs herself and bleeds to death. In the movie with Leonardo diCaprio, they changed it from the play and had her take Romeo's gun and shoot herself in the head.
