Easter is celebrated in Madagascar with a long church service in the morning followed by lunch with family and friends in the afternoon. The monday after Easter, called Lundi de Paka, is celebrated by going out into the countryside and picnicing, partying, swimming, and playing sports all day long. Kind of like an American "day in the park". People cook meat all day long, drink, and enjoy being together. Easter is a time of family and food in Madagascar. Although there are no Easter Bunnies, egg hunts or baskets, there are plenty of beautiful new outfits, candy, and toys for kids of all ages.
