Sugar water I think a 1 to 3 thing like... 1 cup of sugar for every 3 cups of water... and if you have any animals their leftovers work well. haha

Updated answer: some household products, like Epsom salts, can be used in the garden. Tea leaves and coffee grounds can be added to the compost pile, and compost is a good basic fertilizer. The "animal leftovers" mentioned above, aka manure, is also a good fertilizer once composted. I would not recommend sugar water, since it does not contain any of the NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) fertilizer components. And sugar water can lead to bacterial and fungal growth in soil.

For best results, use fertilizers commercially sold, or make your own compost.

Compost is absolutely THE BEST amendment for soil. It is rich with living communities of organisms that will gladly share nutrients with your plants. If at all possible, start composting NOW!

Also, Epsom salts (in small amounts: 1-2 tsp. per gallon of water) are great for boosting magnesium and sulfate. Coffee grounds are great sources of nitrogen, and they look nice, like a rich, dark soil. Egg shells (ground up) add calcium carbonate to the soil.

Note: Nutrient values of manures vary greatly, depending on the diet and

age of the animals, and the nature and quantiy of bedding in the mix.

Don't put raw manure directly on garden soils. Raw manure generally releases nitrogen compounds and ammonia which can burn plant roots, young plants and interfere with seed germination. In fact, it's recommended that all animal manure should be aged for at least 6 months.

Another good source would be your dieing annuals and such. Don't just throw out all the clipping and dieing plants. Chop them down and turn them into the soil. Great source when you have nothing else.

You can use household waste like vegetable scraps, waste paper, lawn clippings, leaves, lawn clippings,vegetable and fruit scraps,old flour or other ground grains,pickling lime to neutralize any acidic components,leaves raked in the Fall,chipped tree branches and wood ash.
