Best Answer

Some rabbits will eat tomatoes.

However, rabbits should never ever be allowed to eat the tomato plant, leaves, vines, stems, or any green parts etc. as they are highly poisonous to rabbits. Only the ripe fruit itself is safe.If your rabbit likes tomato, you can offer it as an occasional treat, but it shouldn't be a regular part of your rabbit's diet. The House Rabbit Society recommends no more than 2 tablespoons of treat food a day for a normal, healthy 6 pound rabbit.

See the related question below for more info and helpful links about the rabbit diet.

As always, when your rabbit eats something bad, pay very close attention to its health and behaviour over the next week or so. If your rabbit shows any sign of illness, respond with first aid and/or a trip to the vet's (whichever the situation calls for). See the related questions below for more details and helpful links.

Not really, because the the tomato plant is poisonous to rabbits. All parts of the tomato plant are poisonous to bunnies (including leaves, vines, stems, etc.), except for the fruit.Wild rabbits may eat some of the tomato fruit, if it comes across any.

Pet rabbits often enjoy a bite or two of tomato fruit as a treat. (Too many treats will make your rabbit sick, though, so be careful.) Never give your pet bunny any part of the tomato plant to eat except for the fruit: your pet bunny has lost many of its wild instincts, and no longer knows what is safe to eat and what isn't (that's your job!).

See the related question below for info about what to feed your pet bunny. See the related link for a list of poisonous plants for rabbits.

Some rabbits do eat tomatoes but, like humans, rabbits have their personal likes and dislikes. More importantly, however, is that most parts of the tomato plant are toxic to rabbits, including the leaves, stems, vines, etc. Only the tomato fruit itself can be safely eaten by rabbits, and even then only as a treat. Rabbits should eat hay, pellets, and fresh dark leafy greens -- any other foods (like other vegetables and fruit) should be considered a treat. One or two small bites of treat food every few days should be fine for a healthy rabbit. Please see the related links/questions below for more details.

No. Tomato leaves, vines, stems, and all plant parts are toxic to rabbits, except for the fruit. Tomato fruit is edible, but isn't very healthy and should be considered a treat, if at all: no more than a bite every few days. See the related questions/links below for more info.

MORE ABOUT SAFE FOODS As a general rule, rabbits should not be fed tomatoes, but it (the fruit only) will not harm them on any one occasion. Eighty (80%) percent of a rabbit's solid diet should be made up of hay. Hay is required for their digestive system, which is extremely vulnerable to imbalances and GI stasis, a deadly condition for rabbits. For adult rabbits, hay should be grass hay, e.g. timothy, brome, orchard grass, meadow grass; oat, wheat, and barley hays can be given now and again in small quantities as a treat. Alfalfa hay should only be given to young bunnies under 6 or 7 months old. The rest of the diet should consist of green leafy vegetables and good quality pellets that are high in fibre (about 20%) and not rich in sugars, proteins, or carbohydrates. Water must be available to bunnies in unlimited quantities, as should be hay (the right kind for their age).

MORE ABOUT UNSAFE FOODS The seeds of apples and Pears and the pits of apricots contain cyanide and are poisonous to rabbits and should always be removed before given to your pet. Other poisonous foods include avocado, the eyes of potatoes and eggplant, and tomato plant. Despite "Bugs Bunny" Cartoons, carrots are not that good for bunnies because they are high in sugar, but a bite now and again is okay as a treat.

Always introduce new foods to your rabbit just a little at a time and observe your rabbit to make sure the doesn't cause diarrhoea or other health problems.

No, it is not nutritional enough to feed a rabbit. It might get diarrhea if he/she digests the tomato leaves.

Actually, tomato leaves are poisonous for rabbits. All the parts of the tomato plant -- including leaves, vines, stems (basically, everything except for the fruit itself) -- are poisonous to bunnies. Wild rabbits don't eat them, and you should never give them to your pet rabbit.

See the related question below for info about what to feed your pet rabbit. See the related link for a list of plants that are poisonous to pet rabbits (there's lots of them).

They can, but shouldn't really do.Tomatoes of any kind are not healthy for rabbits. The greenery of the tomatoes (leaves, stem and vine) can be toxic.

Your rabbit should be fine with a couple of nibbles a week, but it's not reallyadvisable.

Rabbits should ideally have hay, rabbit meal (rabbit cereal/pellets) and fresh greens.

Tomato leaves, vines, and stems are toxic to rabbits, but, technically speaking, this does not constitute an allergy.

Please see the related questions below for more details.

Can Rex rabbits eat tomatoes?

Rex rabbits can eat the same foods as all pet rabbits. When it comes to care and behaviour, all pet rabbits are pretty much the same.Tomato vines, leaves, and stems are toxic to rabbits (including Rexs). Tomato fruit is not toxic but it shouldn't be a staple of a rabbit's diet. If your rabbit likes tomato, a bite or two every few days at most is okay -- tomato can be a treat. Otherwise, rabbits should mostly be eating hay, with some pellets and fresh greens daily. See the related questions below for more info.
