Generally speaking, if the president is going somewhere, the secret service arrives early to check out the facility. Last year, I played (I play the Trumpet) for a vice-presidental function. The secret service came 8 or 10 hours early to check the facility. Once they were there, they placed agents at the door with metal detector wands and everyone in or out was wanded. If you were in a hotel were the SS showed up, you should probably approach one of the agents and inform him that you "have a valid carry permit, and you are in possession of a legal firearm," that you did not know the president was coming to that location, and ask what to do. Do not, under any circumstances, walk up to an agent and say "I have a gun" or anything even remotely close to that. He will probably tell you that you must lock it up in your vehicle.

Can a handgun be mailed via USPS?

An individual (as opposed to a licensed dealer) is not supposed to use the U.S. postal service to ship handguns. You are supposed to use a secondary carrier like Fedex or UPS. If the police department is in the same state, you can legally ship it to them, but if you ship and handgun to a different state, you are supposed to ship to an FFL (licencsed dealer).

Who protect the us president?

The sole purpose of the Secret Service agents are to protect the president. Whoever protects them is irrelevant and quite frankly not needed. People don't plan assassination to kill Secret Service agents, because of how quick people can act. With only 1 (maybe 2) shot, you need to kill the most important figure there, which is usually the president.
