If all of the Phytoplankton disappeared the Eco-system of which it lived in would dissappear. This is because Phytoplankton is the producer in a food pyramid which means that it provides for all of the levels above. Even a Barracuda depends on Phytoplankton to feed ir's prey.

Few clues...

  • no more phytoplankton => no more zooplankton => no more fishes and even less whales => no marine ecosystem
  • no more phytoplankton => no more carbon fixation in the ocean => increase of 1/3 in the accumulation of CO2 in the atmosphere
  • no more phytoplankton => no more oxygen production in the ocean => only bacteria can survive, and decrease of 40% in the global oxygen production on Earth.

Well I know for a fact that most ocean animals (with gills that use oxygen) would die, because plankton use carbon dioxide to create oxygen in the water. It would also cause a huge chain reaction in the food chain, because almost all animals in the sea would die from starvation.
