There are a few different reasons why a pet rabbit that lives alone might pull its hair out. An experienced rabbit vet can help you figure out what the exact problem is with your bunny.
False Pregnancy
If the rabbit is female and not spayed, she could be having a "false pregnancy." This is where the rabbit thinks she is pregnant, and starts acting like she's pregnant. Pregnant rabbits pull out their fur, particularly from their chin (dewlap) and belly, to make a nest for their babies.
False pregnancies are not healthy for rabbits. Preventing false pregnancies is one reason why you should consider spaying your rabbit.
Other Causes
In all pets, fur pulling and biting can be a sign of:
Probably your rabbit is under stress (which includes extreme boredom). Stress leads to a low quality of life in all animals, and can lead to illness or self-destructive behaviour (like pulling out its own fur and worse), so it's important to minimise stress in your rabbit's life.
Sickness can also lead to self-destructive behaviour and stress, so you should look for other signs of illness in your rabbit and be prepared to bring your bunny to a vet with experience and knowledge in rabbits.

If your rabbit is pulling out its fur, probably that means one of two things: it's under stress, or it's going through a false pregnancy.
If your rabbit is going through a false pregnancy, speak with your vet and get it fixed. False pregnancies are stressful for rabbits and hard on their bodies, so it's a good idea to put an end to them. There are many good reasons for spaying your rabbit. See the related link below about spay/neuter and rabbits.
If your rabbit is stressed out, you should learn about rabbit care and behaviour, and make changes to your rabbit's habitat and lifestyle so that you minimize stress. Stress can lead to illness in the long-term, and it gets in the way of having a good relationship with your pet! See the related question below about stress and rabbits.
No it does not hurt a rabbit when there pull out their own fur
Female rabbits do this. Pregnant ones before giving birth. It is a way they keep their newborn babies warm. The babies also learn her scent and can tell her apart from other rabbits.
If its a female then it may be prego... but if its a male then surprizingly it prob thinks its prego... it will pass either way.
Your rabbit is making a nest for her babies. Once my rabbit had a false pregnancy and pulled a ton of fur out but she was fine!
If your rabbit has already star pulling fur out, that mean your rabbit is stress.Try spending time with them, give them some toys, phone book for him to shred it,let them run loose in the garden and you can even make your own toys try going to this website (see related link below) and see how can you make your rabbit happy.
Try not brushing your rabbit at all. They don't really need it unless its an angora rabbit. Maybe give them the occasional brush when they shed their fur (every 4-5 months). You will know this when bits of fur fall out naturally - not to be confused with the rabbit pulling its own fur out with its teeth. If that happens your rabbit is under stress and you should seek medical advice. Plus your rabbit might not like being brushed and it can sometimes damage their skin. Hope I helped.
I have found that with my own rabbits they started to pull their hair out when they are fertile in preparation for being pregnant. The rabbits I had did this when there was no other rabbits around, and the vet I go to said that when they start it is a sign that the bunny is becoming mature.
A mother rabbit is scruffy because they pull out there hair to line the nest with her own fur. Especially under that big chin called a dew lop. since baby rabbits/ "kits" are born with out fur she has to make the nest soft and warm with her own fur and sent. some breeders even take out some of the abundance of fur in the summer time or warmer months and keep it in a paper bag for colder months
Rabbit ears are larger than our ears. Rabbit ears can hear 10x better than humans can. Rabbit ears are covered in fur, we have ear hair. Our ears go on the side of our heads and rabbit ears go straight up or lop down if it is a lop rabbit.
First Answer: They usually shed their fur in the summer because that's when it gets hot and they don't need their winter coat anymore. Rabbits could also pull out fur, if, possibly, they are stressed out for some reason. In winter rabbits grow lots of fur to keep warm, and in the summer they don't need such a thick coat of fur so the fur comes off, which is shedding. If the rabbit is PULLING out its fur, maybe its to shed, or its strange behavior. Maybe they pull out their fur because theyre stressed, or because something is wrong with them. Its hard to tell, really, because lots of animals tend to hide their symptoms until its too late. That's mostly what birds do, but other animals as well.Second Answer: No, rabbits don't pull out their fur when they're too hot. It's not normal for a rabbit to pull out fur because it's shedding/moulting: generally the fur just comes out on its own.If the rabbit is pulling out fur, these are the possible reasons:PregnancyFalse pregnancy - something female rabbits do because of their sex hormones, even when they haven't been near a male rabbit. False pregnancies are stressful for rabbits, and stress leads to a low quality of life and even illness, so it's a good idea to spay your rabbit so that it won't go through false pregnancies anymore. There are many good reasons to spay/neuter rabbits.Parasites or skin problems - your rabbit should see a vet with experience and knowledge in rabbits, because many of the treatments that are safe for cats/dogs are very dangerous for rabbits.Stress, extreme boredom - stress leads to a low quality of life in all animals, and can lead to illness or self-destructive behaviour (like pulling out its own fur and worse), so it's important to minimise stress in your rabbit's life. Its not a good idea Every rabbit should have it's own cage and a pregnant doe not only needs her own cage and nest box but peace and quiet. Having a non pregnant doe in with her would cause too much confusion. The non pregnant doe could jump in and out of the nest box stomping the babies or cause the doe to stomp her own babies by jumping in and out of the box herself while trying to protect them from the other doe. Does will fight, pulling fur, slitting each others ears and scratching eyes.
Some people think it is bad to kill animals for their fur because they think it is bad and unnecessary to kill animals whatsoever. Also, even if you do not mind killing animals, the methods used to raise and kill animals for their fur are inhumane and cruel. It is bad to kill animals fur their fur because, in a way, it is worse than jealousy. We all like the extravagant patterns, but we don't have to kill them for it!If I had a t-shirt with a tiger pattern printed on it, it would be just the same, really.Anyway, who wants to wear a dead animal around them?
Rabbits usually pull their fur and make a nest the evening or day before giving birth. If they have made a nest & pulled fur but still no babies DON'T PANIC! Let mother nature take it's course and everything will come at the right time. ;) Answered By: a Rabbit Pro.
Only very experienced rabbit handlers can gently palpitate the rabbit's abdomen to feel the little baby rabbits. If you do not know what you are doing, you could hurt the mother and kill the babies by doing this. If you think your female rabbit might be pregnant, provide it with a nest box so it can start building a nest. A few days before she is ready to deliver, she will start pulling out her own fur and padding the box with hay. Be aware however, that some female rabbits have 'false pregnancies' and may start to build a nest even though they are not pregnant.
It is all kinds of colors. The chinchilla rabbit breed has gray fur and if you blow into it you can see rings for example. DO NOT TRY TO SAY "no its not its pink" or whatever else you think of because I own one! and by the way: If you do not answer my question correctly "What do mice eat?" then I will not answer your correctly so get lost and answer my question!!!! You are stupid!!!! And Warrior cats rule unlike you!!!!!
