Islam spread in Asia and Africa as a result of many factors; among them are:

  • The most important factor in spread of Islam is the Islam inherent truthfulness that calls for God worship; the one and only one without any partner, son, father associate, or companion and without any mediator.
  • Good Islam morals, tolerance, and forgiveness
  • the Islam rule that superiority among people is only per their piety and good doings and never due to their races, colors, cultures, faiths, or hierarchy.

All these factors were recognized through trade exchange among different nations by the Muslim traders and Muslim travelers.

It is not true the claim that Islam spread by war as claimed by some. All the wars that happened by Muslims were either to defend them selves or to free the will of other people and leave them exercising their free will of faith.

The teachings of Islam are very simple and based on human nature. All the Prophets (about 1, 24, 000) preached Islam. It does not bind a person in unnecessary shackles and bounds. One has to Worship ONE and ONLY Almighty God NO SON, NO Parents, NO Partner, No Associate) and fear none else. There is no priesthood are going to jungles and shirking from human beings in Islam. A Muslim spends a normal life with his spouse and children. All human beings are the off-spring of Hazrat Adam (AS). They are equal in the eyes of Almighty God. There is No Caste System or discrimination on the bases of color. These simple teachings of Islam appealed to the Africans, Asians, Europeans and all others who studied Islam to seek guidance of Almighty Allah Karim. and they embraced Islam.

As Muslim caliphates expand their ruling to half of world's hemisphere, citizens under the new empire were not force to embrace Islam. The teaching of Islam was what attracts the conversions.

The spread of Islam was by force more than by peace. They fought in battles called ''Ghazawaat'' in Arabic, which is the language that Muslims used to speak. Their impact on those countries was that they affected the nations' ideology, arts, customs and traditions, and ethics. Don't forget that they were ruled by a new ''khalifa'' and a new government which affected their living too. Muslims were also affected by what they found in those countries.

How did Islam spread to the islands of southeast Asia?

Islam spread to the island of southeast Asia through traders and merchants. Many of the city states in Malaysia and west Indonesia had a strong maritime trading orientation and as a result, accommodated many Muslim merchants from Arabia, India, and the East African coast. As a result, the ideas of Islam became incorporated in those areas, supplanting the previous Buddhism. In the rest of Southeast Asia, such as Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Burma, and Vietnam, the orientation was much more inland and river-based trade, meaning that Islam did not have the same inroads and access.
