Car companies backed off on making cars and switched to making jeeps for the army. Rubber companies started making more tires for the army than for civilian cars. Bulldozer makers started making tanks. The ship yards ran 24/7. Iron and copper mining expanded to supply raw material for guns and bullets. Some industries were classified as essential for the war effort and fell under different rules as non essential industries.
