Ancient civilizations were effected by the geography of were they were living. Cities were built near bodys of water (lakes, Oceans, Rivers, ect.) because it provided them with fertile soil, transportation, food and water, larger numbers of animals to hunt, and good hygiene. Stable food sources were a big part on how you than lived. If animals had a place to stay stabily, so did you. Than you would be able to settle down as well. Some civilitions were made in areas withaverage temperature as well. Geography also occasionally provided natural barriers. Natural barriers kept out enemies, etc. When there were none, cultural diffusion was more likely to happen.
