John Steinbeck was a great "people watcher" and was fascinating with people of all walks of life. He experienced a great deal in his lifetime and he wrote about it. At first he was not a successful writer and even left writing for a period of time, but got back into writing. One of his best loved works of writing is "The Grapes of Wrath."

Steinbeck was influenced by geography, particularly that of the Salinas Valley, which is where many of his stories take place (East of Eden, Of Mice and Men, Cannery Row, Sweet Thursday,etc.).

He was also influenced by his love for marine Biology. This can be seen in his Cannery Row, Sweet Thursday, The Sea of Cortez, and The Pearl. Doc, the protagonist of Cannery Row and Sweet Thursday, is modeled after his friend Ed Ricketts, a marine biologist.

Steinbeck also was influence by religious doctrine. East of Eden is a retelling the story of Adam and Eve and Cain and Abel. To A God Unknown has strong ties to Paganism.

Me, he is from the same hometown as I am, Salinas, California. I am a writer who enjoys writing in every day language. John Steinbeck has influenced anyone who takes the common language from everyday people and turn it into interesting stories about human nature. I can't name any specific authors he influenced, but I hope this helps you in some way.
