Generally you need commercial coverage if using your own vehicle for company business. Some companies may help with the premiums but that's an exception to the norm. Usually you're going to be stuck paying yourself. Of course you need not tell anyone that you are using the vehicle for company business (other than the IRS).

Do you need additional insurance coverage if you drive a private vehicle for business?

Most personal auto insurance policies will exclude business use of your personal auto. So the answer is you most likely will need a separate business auto policy if you are using your auto for business. There are a few exceptions to this. Some personal auto insurance policies do have a business use class that was intended for the accountant, lawyer, counsultant type who drives from client to client all day long. Or possibly even a real estate agent might find coverage on the personal auto policy. Each insurance company has different rules on what types of "business use" they will tolerate. The best thing to do is call your agent and discuss the possibilites with him/her. And I always recommend, the best place to be is an independent agent. Independant agents have access to several insurance companies and can shop your insurance for you to find the best fit for your needs.

Commercial Auto Insurance Is a Must for Businesses?

When you insure a vehicle that you use for business purposes, make sure that you insure it under an authentic commercial auto insurance policy. A personal auto insurance policy will not cover many business uses of an automobile, and if you make a commercial auto insurance related claim that is not covered on your personal policy it will be denied. Therefore, when you buy or lease a car for business use, contact a commercial auto insurance broker if your general business insurance broker or provider cannot assist you with your commercial auto insurance needs.

If you have a wreck delivering does your insurance have to pay?

Depends ... if you are using a personal auto that is insured for 'pleasure' and using it for delivering goods to customers (which is conducting a business), then NO your insurance will most likely not pay. However, if you have been honest and upfront with your insurance company and have the car insured for use in business venture, then you might be covered.

Do all business owners need commercial auto insurance?

The only time you would not need it is if your personal auto insurance policy already covers you for your business use. If they would not cover then you need to purchase commercial insurance for that vehicle.

What liability coverage is extended to you when you use your car for deliveries while working for your employer?

None, If you have a personal Auto Insurance Policy, " No coverage at all" will extend to you nor to any other injured party while you were engaged in a Delivery Service Business. A Personal Auto Insurance Policy is for the Personal use of your vehicle. Should you have an accident while engaged in a commercial enterprise, your personal Auto Policy will not cover the accident. While engaged in a Delivery Service Business with only a Personal Auto Insurance Policy in place, you are basically driving without coverage. Although a Business Auto Use Endorsement to your Personal Auto Policy will extend coverage for certain Business or job related errands such as occasionally picking up offices supplies and trips to meet with customers, Delivery services are always excluded from a personal Auto Policy. You need to obtain Business or commercial auto coverage to be compliant with your state Insurance Regulations.
