Other signals are interlaced meaning that the image is constructed from two fields. The first shows odd numbered lines and the second shows all the even numbered lines. Interlaced signals are shown by an "I" instead of a "P".
The field rate in the signal is 24 fields per second. This is an unusual rate and indicates that the original content was produced on film which captures 24 frames per second. The most faithful way to reproduce film content is to retain the original frame rate rather than convert it to 50 or 60Hz field rates. Although 24 fields will not be seen on broadcast signals, it is possible to use them from DVD, Bluray and other computer generated signals such as games consoles.
So, a 1080p 24Hz signal is a high definition signal originally mastered on film.
