The 4-40 license is a Customer Service Representative license that allows someone to work in an insurance office or call center under the direction and guidance of an insurance agent (2-20 licensee).

The 4-40 representative can talk to clients, explain coverage, bind policies and do most of the job duties that an full-fledged insurance agent can do. Typically, the 4-40 representative will earn $10-$15 an hour and because insurance agencies will hire new agents without experience, there is generally a good job market for 4-40 representatives.

The license is available through the University of Central Florida without taking the state exam. The RCSR Designation (Registered Customer Service Representative Designation) is a distance learning course that earns the student an exemption from the license test.
