Aripiprazole sold under the brand name Abilify?(Bristol-Myers Squibb) is the sixth, and most recent, of the second generation antipsychotic (or atypical antipsychotic) medications to hit the market. Aripirazole is FDA approved for the treatment of schizophrenia. Additionally, it has recently received FDA approval for the treatment of acute manic and mixed episodes associated with bipolar disorder.

It has far less serious side effects than the older medications used to treat psychotic disorders and rather than having the sedative effect that is usually associated with antipsychotiuc drugs of the past Abilify has the opposite effect and acts as a stimulant and so gives the user a new lease of life that he could never hope to have with the older drugs such as olanzapine and risperidol.
