Al-Azhar is a very famous big mosque (masjid in Arabic) in Egypt. Al-Azhar, like any other mosque, has been a place of worship. However, Al-Azhar was used to teach Muslims different subjects like Arabic and Islam as well. Nowadays, Al-Azhar is the name of a university located in Egypt too.
