This theory is given by alfred werner in 1892. The main postulates of this theory are as follows.
1) in the coordination compound the metal show two types of valancies
or linkage these are called primary and secondary valancies .
2)the primary valancies are normally ionisable and are represented
by the oxidation number and are satisfied by negative ions.
3) the secondary valancies are non - ionisable and are satisfied by neutral moleclues and negative ions. They are represented by coordination number and fixed for an atom.
4) the secondary valancies are directed towards the fixed positions in space . It leads to definite geometrry of the complex compound . On the other hand primary valancies are non-directional.....
