Yes, because it requires devotion.

The Amish are loyal to their community, their beliefs, their way of life, and a theology.

  1. Their loyalty to their community leads to intermarriage within the group, interacting with only other members, and communally shared group activities.
  2. Their beliefs are shared amongst all, any that do not share their beliefs are eventually excommunicated.
  3. They live their whole life in isolation recluse from the rest of the world, in a plain community setting differing from outsiders.
  4. Their theology while modification of Judaism to a more Christianity version, is employed through all these other practices in a completely different reverence of compelled worship.

they are kinda like baptists in their doctrine.. They really don't believe anything weird or cultish; They are born again Christians... They just do things a little different so they don't get sucked into the world and struggle so much with sin. And being a Christian living in America is tough! So, although I'm not Amish i totally get why they do what the do. =) I did a research paper on them and was pleasantly surprised with the statistics..
